When my Pekin was about 6 weeks old I had to give him his own brooder because he started pulling the chicks feathers. They would play together sometimes after that, but had separate brooders. He would still try to feather pull, but after he got pecked a few times he quit.

Now he's 3 months. He's been in the coop with the chickens for a few weeks and everyone was getting along. Recently I noticed one of my BCM roos tail looks like someone bit the end off at the base. Two of the feathers almost look like they were cut off. I assumed it was another roo and have been watching closely, but haven't seen any squabbles. I was outside a few minutes ago and hear quite a squack and look over to see the pekin chasing a Jersey Giant roo. Both of them hollering like mad. I grab the roo and stick him on a perch and look for ducky who's running around with a mouth full of tail feathers! I don't know what was funnier....the duck yelling at me for taking the roo, or the roo grumbling about what a terrible critter the ducky is!

So...now what? There is another duck, but the pekin prefers to hang out with the chickens. I could build a duck pen. The other duck isn't fully feathered yet though, so he would still have to stay in the main coop at night because of the heat lamp. So the pekin would be alone at night and and I would feel bad about that. They have several acres of yard and many acres of woods to free range in so space isn't an issue. Even if I built the pen where I want (on the other side of the clearing over an acre away) I know he would just come over to where the rest are by the main coop.

Will he grow out of it?
