Trying to decide on a breed for the spring. Down to SL Wyandottes, Dominiques, RC RIR's, or Buff Brahmas. I think the SLW's will be the winner but I've always loved the Big Brahmas and adore the buff color. I've recently read about feather legged breads having issues with damp soil and frost bite. We're in Maine and part of our land is a wet. The birds will free range for the most part. Our chickens seem to be drawn to the most wet areas. I imagine there are lots of worms there. Anywho, Does anyone have any practical experience with damp feet, feathered legs, and cold?

Thanks

We're not in Maine, but we have d'Uccles and Silkies.

We have not had any problems with the feathered feet being extremely dirty (they do dry quickly).

Most people who show their birds will not let them run around on the ground about a month prior to a show because the feathers get ruffled and dirty.
