Could somebody post a picture of a chick that has feathered out enough to go outside perm.? Also, do certain breeds feather out quicker then others? When do EE and Barred Rocks usually feather out? Any help/pictures would be great, thanks.

I don't have any pix, but Yes certain breeds feather out a little different. I believe most chicks feather out 6-8 weeks.

They should be fully feathered at 6 weeks and shouldn't need any additional heat.As long as they stay dry, they'll be fine.If they get wet,They'll get chilled and can easily die, unless you can get to them quickly.

Now,I'm not talking about temperatures in the teens and 20's.They need to be out of the wind, also.

Awesome, thanks a bunch! Here in Sacramento the nights are usually 80/90 degrees, so I can probably put them out at about 5 weeks or so. Not much breeze, but their coop is draft proof.

Also if anybody has any BEFORE/AFTER pictures of chicks feathering out please do post them so I know what to look for

I have 2 EE and one Barred Rock chicks

Your nights are 80-90 degrees?? Right now?? Wow. I think I would hate that. My father lived in Phoenix, and even there, the nights weren't 80-90 in the spring.

Yeah...your chicks should be a-ok outside. 'Cept they might be a little warm!

Oh lol, no it's not that warm right now. But by the time my chicks are 5-6 weeks old it sure will be! Today is rainy, but the past few days have been 83+. And will only get warmer!
