One of my Plymouth Rock hens are getting her feathers plucked out by her five sisters. Her back rump feathers are completely gone and she is raw in spots. She is the smallest of the six. PLEASE HELP!

I had some chicks this year that continually pecked their friends. I separated the one that was being pecked until her feathers grew back and then I put her back in.

Hi and

gosh i was going to say to isolate the one who's doing the pecking but if all are doing it then thats a problem.. can you tell who the ring leader is? if so I would remove her. that will upset the pecking order enough that it might stop.. do you have Blue kote? it will make the skin purple [and anything else it touches] but its get to cover over wounds and such. good for healing too. If you can identify the ring leader keep her separate for at least a wwk to give the hen time to heal and also put her in a new place in the pecking order. also try upping their protein ammts. give them canned salmon, canned tuna, be sure to rinse off the salt, meal worms, yogurt, flock blocks, fresh vegetables like cabbage and beets with tops hang inside of their coop gives them something to do to relieve boredom in these winter months.
