I have two Salmon Faverolles Roosters that are about 7 months old.
My husband had noticed that one of the roosters looked like it did not have regular wattles. On closer inspection the rooster appears to have feathers growing out of his wattles. There both so friendly and allow me to hold them for a short period of time so I was able to get a fairly good look at his wattles. Then I noticed that his long neck feathers appear not to be developing around the upper part of his neck.
I 21 SF, four of which are roosters. I had planned to breed them and sell the chicks. So far I have identified at least five of the birds that have scissor beaks, one of them being a younger rooster. The hatchery has said that they have not heard of so many birds with this problem purchased by one owner.
I have not sent them the photos of the feathered wattle yet.
Has anyone noticed feathers growing from wattles in any of their chicken breeds?
