Two hens are suddenly (within a week) missing feathers from their necks. We thought it was from the roo pulling during mating, so he is separated. Hens act normal, are laying, eating, playing, etc. Whatever the cause, it has not yet affected the rest of the flock. Any ideas what it could be, disease-wise?

He’s been separated a few days. My son thinks they (these hens) are starting to look better. Which to me, I was shocked it had been worse than it is now.

I would treat the one hen’s wound with chlorhexidene, saline, or wound spray, and then apply triple antibiotic ointment twice a day to keep it from drying out. Keep her separated or try spraying BluKote over the antibiotic ointment to hide the red wound. If they pick at it, separate her. This will take weeks to heal since it is full thickness of her skin.
