FEATHERS!

How long before the chicks are feathered enough to live outside in their coop and yard? We plan to get about 6 Rhode Island Reds and we don't really know how long we have to get their permanent home ready. We have been told 6 months by someone but I read on different sites 5 to 8 weeks! That is a big difference. I have a million questions on getting started but will post more at another time.

They will be feathered out around 4 weeks. Most keep in the brooder between 4 & 8 weeks. I personally put most batches out earlier than most and see them do just fine. Your local weather will play a part for sure.

Thank you. That is very good to know. I am glad I talked the hubby out of getting some thinking we had a full 6 months to put them out.
