Hi everyone! So glad to have this wonderful group! First time chicken owners and want to do it right!!! Our chickens(rhode island reds and Orpington) are 3.5 months old and we are currently feeding starter feed. It is time for a new bag and wanted recommendations on what we should be feeding them. Thanks!

You can keep them on the starter for life. Or put them on an All Flock type feed. I prefer Flock Raiser. These feeds offer more protein than layer feeds. You want to shoot for 18 - 20% protein.
Just put out a separate container of oyster shell near the feeder for the active layers to eat and you're all set!

Yeah, I agree.
I also feed a Non-Medicated Starter-Grower or a All-Flock/Flock Raiser feed with 18/20% Protein.
I offer them Oyster Shells separately after 16 weeks old, so they can take as needed. 20181214_095753.jpg . GC
ETA; If you want to feed a Layers feed, wait till their combs and wattles are red and swollen and they squat when you reach down to pet them after 18 weeks old.
