We just moved up to the next stage of feed. Bought it from the local feed mill. After arriving home I noticed it said for "broilers". Would this feed work for laying hens, or should I return it?

Thanks

You should take it back, it is probably medicated and even if its not, it would be full of protien and chances are it cost more than your feed for laying hens would.

You don't say how old your birds are or what the protein percentage of the broiler feed is. Those are the two bits of information that will allow us to answer your question properly.
It could be a low protein finisher or a higher percentage starter or grower. Depending on the age of your pullets, it could be the perfect food for them.

Hi ChickenCanoe,

Our hens are a little over two and a half months old, the protein percentage says 20%. Thanks!

20% is more for birds under 8 weeks. You can supplement some grain to get the protein percentage down but it won't be the end of the world if you don't.
4 parts of a 10% protein grain to 6 parts of the 20% feed will give you a 16% grower feed.

I stopped worrying about feed stuff a long time back. Most chicken food is really close to the same stuff. Buy what is right for age, and if you get the wrong stuff get the right stuff next time. They will be fine.
