I just hope he/she turns out super cute!

Well, from the looks of it, SHE is going to be a doll!!!!

You need to hurry and give her a VERY feminine name.....that wards off any rooster tendencies she may have. LOL I have two self blue Silkies, they had that funky yellowish/bluish look she appears to have, as babies. They are now a gorgeous light blue.

If they color them before they're hatched

and they only sell roosters this way....

What happens to the dyed pullets?

I bought 3 different breeds of colored chicks in this bin so I'm sure they weren't all leg horns. I cant wait to see what the other 2 turn out to be too.

ETA: they other 2 were feathering in buff-colored.

OMG I feel kinda dumb right now!!!!! LOL I have always heard people say "they are all roosters" and I KNOW they are dyed before hatching. Every time I see them I automatically think "uh huh, those are all roos". I think I'll go hide now!!!! LOL

Just like all chicks they vent sex them and sell the pullets to the large laying barns.

The leghorn rooster to small to be worth much.

White chicks dye best, they inject vegetable dyes about 12 to 14 days into incubation. They use a hypodermic needle and use .3 cc of dye. then cover the hole with wax or glue.

They use to do this every easter.

They do it now to mark different strain of layers, that way eggs can be hatch together.

I was thinking of trying to dye one of my leghorn X eggs i recently put in the bator, i read up online how to do it, but I'm still not sure where exactly the dye has to be injected (like how far inside the egg).

I'm still looking for more info on it.

ETA: well now that i know they're all roos, i think i'm gonna be +2 in a couple months, lol. I'm sure my mothers friend wont want 2 roosters :p
