Hi does anyone have any spring feeder designs you can show me please. I plan on making spring feeders for my chickens and pheasants and obviously the plastic barrel with open screw top is the easiest way of making one but I can get hold of these 25ltr barrels a lot cheaper, I guess one way of doing it is to pour the feed down the small hole at the top using a funnel and screwing the spring from the under side rather than dropping it through from the inside.

I do not know what a SPRING FEEDER is . :idunno
I am thinking you want to make something like in video.
There are many more videos on subject once you view one clip.

I made a feeder like that and found it works well but the feed on the bottom collects moisture and never gets near the birds. It requires cleaning from time to time.

If you are handy and can build with wood I really recommend Jthorton's design. This thread covers all of his design. I copied it and changed my front on mine and the sloped bottom makes no place for food to lay and collect moisture. I am surprised no one has made a commercial copy like this yet.

This is how I changed the front on his design.

Ok, benefits to the wood feeder, I made 2 with 1 $20 piece of plywood. The birds can't get on top of it and poop all over it.

The tubs cost about $6 and each 4" street elbow costs $6 each. Trash cans are pretty expensive to cut holes into to make a feeder, unless you can get repurposed ones. The cheapest new ones at Lowes are at least $15. The birds poop all over the top of it. 4 hens were on it sometimes and I figured the lid would break in the winter.

I'm having trouble with my waterer and the dern Cornish getting on it and pooping all over it. I might have to try that funnel idea on top, If I can fine one large enough.
