How much feeder space are you using in your tractos. I will have 10x10's and I am using trough feeders. I will be putting outside shortly and I want to make sure I have the right amount of feeders fors them. Each 10x10 will have about 65-70 CX's in them.

Thanks

Barry

In high density broiler grow out facilities 1" of trough space is provided for each bird. That means that if birds can eat out of both sides of a 10" long trough that trough is long enough for 20 birds. This applys to birds up to 42 days of age with an as hatched average weight of 5.25 lbs. Round feeder pans will acomodate 15% more birds per inch of circumference than troughs will.

High density production dictates that birds have a lighting program that never includes more than 6 hours of darkness.

If a "starve them into health" erroneous light management procedure is used, like 12 on/12 off or other drastic efforts and unanticipated changes occur, the birds will be prone to mob the feeders and more space will be required.

I will not be removing feed. I use 3 foot troughs, so theoretically one trough per tractor should do the trick? I will plan on having some extra to be safe.

One 3' trough for 70 Cornish X's is not enough- unless you want to fill it every couple of hours, and have a riot whenever you put it back down full in the pen. You're going to feed 24/7?

Yes the plan is 24/7. If I see the heavy breathing I will cut back but I don't plan on restricting.

How many troughs do you use in your tractors?

Barry

WOW 75 Cornish x per 10X10????? You are gonna have to move them tractors all day long and one trough is defintly not enough, my cornish x will sit on eachother even though I have 2 7 ft long trough feeders... .. I have 20 cornish x in a 9X8 and I have to move it twice a day and even then my grass is suffering and the smell

That still seems like wayyy too many birds in way to small a space... IMHO ... I know with my 21 they can decimate the 8x9 in a few hours.. Couldnt imagine 65-70...

Barry-

With your two trough feeders add a hanging 20 lb one as well. That way it gives you some time in between feedings. You do not want them to run out of feed while on pasture... if the sun is shinning they need to be eating. It stresses them way too much.... same goes with water.

I have a meatie pen that is 10x10 and only plan on 30 birds. Would 2 - 36" trough feeders be enough for the birds? This is only my second year of meaties and I only had 10 last year, so keeping them fed was not a problem.
