Hello, we are in the process of getting 6 weeks old pullet. They have developed feathers and will join the coop soon.
I was wondering what kind of feed do you suggest for 6 week old chicks? Can anyone suggest a good brand of chick starter feed?
Also has anyone tried a good home made recipe instead of going commercial?
I know that at 6 weeks they dont need oyster shells. however how about chick size grit?
Any advice is appreciated

By 6 weeks they are ready for adult grit or #2 grit at a minimum. Chick grit will be too small.
Any brand of fresh feed will work. Purina is a good standard but there are pricier feeds that may not be available where you live. A homemade recipe won't get the complete nutrition they need unless you have a lab to assay the ingredients.
Stick with a fresh complete feed. At 6 weeks, I'd go between 18% and 20% protein.
Always read feed labels - for mill date and protein % at a minimum.

I feed a Starter Grower feed 18% to Chicks, Pullets and Hens. Medicated the first 10 weeks.
I like and buy Purina and Nutrena Naturewise. They both have Pre and Probiotics.
I,ll also buy a All-flock crumble 20% if it's on sale.

My TSC carries Chick Grit and Poultry Grit.
I offer Adult size Poultry Grit after 7 weeks in a separate container. 20181214_095809.jpg .
I agree with @ChickenCanoe and would just get the Adult size Grit at 6 weeks old. 20191228_160551.jpg
I offer Oyster Shells after 16 weeks old, also in a separate container. GC
