feeding 8plus week old chicks

I live in West Texas its pretty warm here so my chicks are free range already only about 8 weeks old but are outside all the time except night when they're in their coopso feeding them is my next question chickstarter I feed free choice thought about adding scratch grains since thay eat that anyway free range good idea or not
