Have a 6 month ester egger who isnt laying yet. Do I have to seperate her from the layer feed? If so how do I do that?

And what do I feed a rooster?

Many see the calcium in feed for non layers as no problem at all, some see it as a death sentence due to possible liver problems.

I like to feed a 'flock raiser' 20% protein crumble to all ages and genders, as non-layers(chicks, males and molting birds) do not need the extra calcium that is in layer feed and chicks and molters can use the extra protein. Makes life much simpler to store and distribute one type of chow that everyone can eat.

The higher protein crumble also offsets the 8% protein scratch grains and other kitchen/garden scraps I like to offer.

Calcium should be available at all times for the layers, I use oyster shell mixed with rinsed, dried, crushed chicken egg shells in a separate container.

Animal protein (mealworms, a little cheese - beware the salt content, meat scraps) is provided during molting and if I see any feather eating.

you can feed her layer feed, with the rest of your flock with no worries. You could also get an all flock feed. Right now I have only 2 birds laying, and 15 pullets and 2 cockerels at 13 weeks. I just have 2 feeds available to all birds at the same time.. no way to keep only big birds eating layer feed and others only eating their starter/grower without separating the birds.
