Is it okay to feed acorns to my hens? Even the ones that are bruised? And have grubs in them? I have in the past, and nothing has happened to them, but I was just wondering. Thanks for taking the time to read.

Any of the white oak acorns will be fine for sure, grubs will be fought for. I would not give them any that were overly moldy or rotted. The red oak acorns will be bitter and not sure they'd take them.

Most wild animals and larger birds (turkeys) love white oak acorns. They are low in protein content, but very high in fats and carbohydrates. Live oaks and the red oaks acorns will have the high tannic acid contents which most wildlife will avoid.

I don't have any for my birds, but the wild turkeys around here sure love them!
