Feeding Breeders

Layer feed (17% pelleted--yes, even the rooster), whatever dog feed they can get a hold of, free-range roughage, egg shells, duck eggs (no one else will eat them) and supplemental vitamin B complex tablets. And whatever scraps come out of the garden.

18% Naturewise Unmedicated Chick Feed in the morning. With some oats in the evening. Oyster shells once a week
They don't free range or go out much so I do give them things like apples and lettuce as often as I can.

All of my birds eat the same 20% "all flock" type feed. Oyster shell on the side. Times of molt or other stress, young chicks, I will add some extra fish meal to the feed.

2/3 Layer Crumbles to 1/3 Scratch Grains. With a little Calf Manna, Black Oil Sunflower Seed, Safflower Seed, & Manna Pro Poultry Conditioner Pellets mixed in.

50lbs scratch, 50lbs 21% crumble, 40lbs good dog or cat food, mixed. Gonna throw some brewer's yeast in it too, have some concerns about B vitamins. Plus a handful of mealworms most afternoons. My goal is to cut the soy content and add good amino acids from meat (dog/cat food). I'd like to have it all ground to feed as wet mash, but my friend with the grinder isn't thrilled with the idea.

Always oyster shell on the side, I never feed layer. There is a soy-free 18% layer available locally now, but it's pricy and pelleted and still includes other legumes, and I'm unsure if they might have the same issues as soy, so not using it currently.
