Feeding chickens cat food

How often should cat food be feed to chickens if any at all. JMR

It's a fair treat, but not a good diet. Too much protein and too much salt are the main issues; I'm sure there are others, but it's eleven-thirty at night and I'm too lazy to pull up the feed tags and do comparisons and internet searches.

EDT: Birds can't handle salt as well as mammals can--it gives them heart problems.

Why the other pet food? Mealworms are great for protein or treats.... I personally wouldn't want fish or cat food in my eggs

I give mine a high quality caned cat food on occasion. I just gave it today, the last time was a couple weeks ago.

I give cat food mostly as treat when it is cold or really wet and when the molt it is dry food but up protein allot

The chickens at our house seem to just help themselves to the outdoor cat food. They hop up to where it is, and it's never caused them problems We're trying to get them to stop, but it doesn't seem to work, they just keep flying/hopping up to it
