feeding chickens rabbit food

It won't hurt them but they probably won't eat it. I tried feeding my chickens some left over rabbit pellets a few weeks ago and it went untouched. I ended up dumping it on the ground and the wild rabbits snarfed it all up in no time.

ok, thanks....I guess, since I live in the city, I'll take that food out to my parents' farm and let those wild rabbits have it....I hope the labs don't consider that bait;)

You can use that rabbit food as fertilizer as it's usually mostly (if not all) alfalfa. That and alfalfa makes an awesome fertilizer as it's balanced and won't burn plants and is more natural the other fertilizers.

I had worked with a nest of wild rabbits that a neighbor's cat had attacked. I bought food for them. When they became nearly adults I released them. (Which was fine since they only acclimated to me, not others). My chickens got the rest of the remaining rabbit pellets mixed into their feed. They seemed fine and ate it.

I agree that rabbit food is great fertilizer. It is best to put in the planting hols when you are putting in started plants. Otherwise you will have wild rabbits and possibly other critters eating it. We have too many wild rabbits to try using it for fertilizer.
