I have my first flock this year and I'm so excited. But it just popped into my head that when i mix my ages, i will be feeding laying pellets to the oldest (that are 8 weeks old next week) and grower to the youngest (that should be here this week). How have other people who have mixed ages gone about making sure the chickens are getting what they need. I have read so many things that said i should introduce them to older birds around 8 weeks but it feels like i'll need to wait til 16 weeks. Any advice?

Just feed the whole flock whatever the young ones need. Some people feed their flocks a flock raiser routinely, so they never have to worry about chicks getting layer feed. The amprolium in medicated chick feed doesn't affect the eggs, you can still eat them. Just put out some oyster shell separately for any layers who want it for the calcium. Probably healthier for the cockerels, too.
