Hi all. When we switched our flock over to New Country Organics later feed for our hens we didn’t think about the rooster or drakes in the flock. I’ve read the added calcium in layer feed can give them issues. What do others do that have both chickens and ducks? Do female ducks know to eat oyster shells? Does anyone have specific brands they would recommend if I want organic non gmo?

Hey Titan,

I have ducks and chickens and I give them access to scratch food and a non-medicated layer or finisher pellet as well and they are all happy and healthy.

Your question pertaining to female ducks knowing to eat oyster shell is a good one and I assume they would but if the flock is allowed to forage they should be able to eat all of the rocks, etc. they need for calcium and digestive purposes so you probably don't need any extra. (Someone please correct me if I'm off base)

In the winter time I give by ducks and chickens gravel grit in their food just for digestive purposes.
