I think ive heard somewhere that if you feed ducks bread that it will shorten there life span,I just wanted to check to see if its ok to feed them it

I soak homemade bread in fruit juice and stick it in the pen. There are ducks and chickens in the pen, and the pan won't last 5 minutes!

I put the juice on it to soften it so they won't choke, make sure their water is clean and full before I put it in with them, and I only feed them homemade bread. I don't even eat that nasty supermarket loaf bread.

Now you've got me wanting some asiago cheese bread, or maybe honey oat bread.....oh, I know, rosemary olive oil bread!

I think that the reason supermarket bread shortens their lifespan is the same reason that it can shorten our lifespans. PRESERVATIVES!

It's not the preservatives, it is the fact that bread, cereal, crackers, etc breaks down in to sugar when digested. 2 slices of bread is about the equivalent of 1/4 cup of sugar.

Like with people, sugar once in a while isn't going to kill you, but sugar every day all the time with every meal, and it is sure as heck going to shorten your life.

If you want to give your duck a treat, give it some veggies. Mine LOVE peas.

Hi, I feed my ducks all kinds of veggies - tomatoes, lettuce leaves torn into small bits, cucumber cut up small, mixed frozen veggies that I buy just for them - thawed in microwave and cooled before given to them, frozen peas - same as mixed veggies; thawed and cooled, and whatever else I find scraps of that I think they will eat. They love, love, love the veggies!! Just make sure that anything you give them is small enough they won't choke on it.

They also go crazy over coi food. You know, the food you buy for those big goldfish for in the ponds. My local ACE hardware store carries it. It is kind of expensive, so it is just a treat, but it's fun to throw it into their pool and watch them go after it. It floats, so that's cool.

Ducks are FUN!! I agree with everyone else though, my ducks NEVER get bread, cereal, crackers, or anything like that. That stuff goes on the compost pile. There are so many other things to give them that is much better for them.

Have fun with your ducks!
