Hello,

Could anyone tell me how much food I should be feeding my free range ducks. We have 4 ducks that are 1 year old and 5 ducks that are 8 weeks old. Given the opportunity they will eat non stop but are entirely free range so I don't really want to feed them too much.

Any advice greatly appreciated!

Mine are free range too but I keep food out for them during daylight hours. they eat when they want it. Especially your 8 week olds need it more than the adults. Just me though others may not have the same schedule.

Mine have access during the day to feed, despite free ranging. Food usage is down in good foraging times anyways, at night some of mine don't simply due to inability to set up water easily.

I considered the free ranging a compliment to their diet not a replacement.

What I'd do is when I let them out of the coop in the morning I fill their bowl and they swarm around it and eat breakfast (acting as if they are starving of course lol). They usually eat about half of it. They free range all day but I constantly change out their water buckets and they are next to their feed so if I find its empty I fill it half way and that pretty much does it for them. Some days I fill it up again at about 6ish if I know I won't be able to let them out as early as usual due to my crazy work schedule. If I do fill it up at 6 it usually is still half way or more full. With having younger ones I'd try to kelp it full at all times because they will eat it more often then the adults.
