my heritage turks are 8 weeks old today. I did what feed store recommended by 50/50 starter and grower to get birds used to it. they seem to push the grower pellets to the side. I see them try by putting in mouth but just dropping out.. Is this right way to go? Am I too early giving to them? or what?

anyone? I have tried the last day research when turks cannot break down pellets or swallow whole, Dont know which, but I find nothing. Just says to switch them to it at 8 weeks. says nothing pertaining my question. Is it something when they get hungry enough they will figure it out. or not?

I have seen three week old chicks eat layer pellets with no problem. I am sure your turkeys could swallow them too. They are probably pushing the pellets to the side because they don't realize they are food. Feed them the mash/pellet combination just in smaller portions until they have cleaned up all of it. They will figure out to eat the pellets when they start gettin hungry.

Thanks, after a while I thought about it and probably they are just being a little picky right now liking the starter crumble better than the grower pellets. ice cream vs spinach for a child.
