Hey everyone! We currently own 3 guinea fowls (and may get more), and I was wondering if I could ferment their feed? I'm going to start fermenting feed for our chicken and quail flocks, and was wondering if I could ferment feed for the guinea fowls at the same time? I would be fermenting 30% protein game bird feed for them, fermenting it the same way you would with chicken and quail feeds. Have any of you done this before? Did your guinea eat the fermented feed?

Any input on this is greatly appreciated!!

You can.

I don't because I keep food accessible to mine at all times. This does not work well for fermented feed as it can spoil if left too long.

It is much simpler for me to feed them a quality purchased feed as is.

OK great. Thank you for your help!! 🙂
Have you ever fed your guineas fermented feed? Did they like it? I'm wondering if our guineas would eat it or not, as there isn't much on the topic.

I am sure the guineas will eat it.
Wow, that's great news!
And I meant "as there isn't much on the topic", not "as this isn't much on the topic", sorry if that came off as rude! I edited my comment and fixed the typo. 😅

Is the 30% protein game bird feed sufficient for the guineas once they get older or will we have to upgrade their feed later on? I'm a total newbie when it comes to fowl, having just got started raising fowl of any kind in the last like 2 months.

And just verifying, you ferment the guinea feed the same way you do chicken feed, right?

Thank you so much for your help!!

The 30% protein starter feed should be fed for the first 6 to 8 weeks. The next 6 weeks should be a quality turkey or game bird grower. That is usually around 24% protein.

Once they are 12 to 14 weeks old they can go on an adult feed. I feed my adults a 20% protein all flock feed. They can get by on a 16% protein feed but do better on a 20% protein feed. I also provide oyster shell free choice.
