ive heard that kelp meal is one of the best feeds for chickens, is this true? Should i just put some of it on the layer feed or should i give it to them instead of layer feed? Is it best to put some on the layer feed in warm months and then feed it to them instead of the layer feed during the winter because its so nutritious? Were are some good places to buy it?

Everything I have seen on using Kelp is as a supplement, not as a complete diet (and usually only as a small percentage of the overall diet). I just bought a 50 pound bag of it from
Countryside Naturals: http://www.countrysidenatural.com/home.php

It
was about $50 plus shipping, but I have a lot of birds so it is more cost effective for me in the long run to buy it in bulk. You can get it in smaller quantities online or even at natural food stores.

The eggs would taste pretty odd if you only fed your birds kelp meal... until they died from malnutrition! However, small amounts of kelp are said to be quite beneficial.
