When the chicks hatch, they should be put in something deep, so they can't get out, and the top kept open, and the temperature inside should be 90 degrees F, or 32.22 degrees C for the first week.
Week 2 = 85 degrees F, or 29.44 degrees C
Week 3 = 80 degrees F, or 26.66 degrees C
Continue lowering the temperature 5 degrees each week, until they have all their feathers.
You can put water in a jar lid, not too deep, at first. Take each chick, and carefully dip their beak in the water, until you see that a little water has gone into their mouth, Or you see them swallow. You will have to get a waterer for them, that is shallow, but has a container that dispenses the water as needed.
No, they can not eat bread, cherries, cucumbers, etc. They MUST be started on chick feed that you get at a feed store. You have a day to get this for them. While you are there, get some chick grit. It looks like sand, but is not. In a few days, put a few piles of grit in the bottom of their container, and let them eat some of it. Not too much, a bit. Do this for 3 days. Chickens don't have teeth. They store grit in their gullet, and it grinds their food up, instead of chewing with teeth. After the 6 days, you can add a tiny bit of treats, cherries, cucumber, etc. NOT MUCH. Bread, cherries, cucumbers, are NOT complete nutrition so they get all the vitamins, and minerals they need for good health, and best growth. They need to eat as much of the feed as they can.
