feeding the chickens newbie

I am going to be getting chickens and want to free range them during the day. for those of ya'll who free range your chickens, you still keep a feeder in the coop filled with food for when ever the chickens need/ want it? do yall just feed them normal chicken feed from the store. as far *** supplements and other forms of food. what should i be giving them. is there an article or book i should read that explains what feed they need and supplements?

If your all about free range hens then it is good too keep a feeder for them, as far as food goes organic chicken feed is probably the best option.
