Are six chickens are nine weeks old. Getting ready to put them in their permanent home outside.
Inside the coop should I have food and water for them or just outside during the day ?

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Depends on your set up and when you let them in/out. They usually should have food/water available all the time, so if you keep them locked in the coop (except at night), you probably want food/water in there. It may also depend on wild birds etc, they can be more of a nuisance if you have food outside, inside a lot of people do cover it up at night because of mice... it is nice not to have water inside because it keeps things dryer.

Mine are about the same age and I kept water and food in the coop for the first couple weeks. I have a couple that are the youngest at 5 weeks, but they all seem to be doing just fine without food and water in the coop. They go in the coop just before dark and are back out by 7 am or so. They are all pretty happy with the routine. I wanted to ween them off food and water in the coop so that way they know the coop is for sleeping and laying. I hope this helps

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! Great advice for m the above posters for you. I too don't have food and water in the coop on a night. They go to bed at dusk when they are ready and I lock them in. First light I let them out, sometimes they are not even ready to get up!! Works well for me so I can remove feeders on a night incase of pest rats or mice.

Good luck and enjoy BYC :frow
