A farmer frien of mine had some combine problems. I have been able to salvage about 2000 pounds of wheat that was left in a pile in the field. Is there any problem with a wheat diet for my hens?
Hello from south ! My neighbor cleaned bins last year and fed his flock all year on that. But he had a small chopper to chop it up with. I'm feeding some barley as a treat right now along with the layer feed. THey love it along with ANYTHING from the garden, weeds and all. Maybe call reinke and see if they would chop it for you maybe ?
I am friends with Chris R and his Mrs. In fact we'll be sitting their one year old today. I may get a chopper as a ton through a hand grinder seems daunting. I will pick up some corn to mix in. But, free is always a good price. I was even thinking about some COB for variety and lower price.
Why would you want to "chop" wheat, just curious? I feed a pigeon mix that has vetch & canada peas that are pretty big and they eat it all. I feed lentils & split peas and they have no problem with that. I feed wheat & that's one of their favorites. Whole seeds are great in that they will sprout if they don't clean them up. JMHO.
