Feeding young chickens

Yeah, I offer treats starting at 10 weeks of age. Scratch Grains scattered on the ground. About a Tablespoon per chick daily. 2 Tablespoons daily after 18 weeks. 20190324_102900.jpg .
Any treats like fruits or leafy vegetables, feed what they can consume in 15/20 minutes daily.
More than 10/15% treats can result in malnutrition and reduced or malformed eggs.
A poultry feed should be their main diet. Mine have Poultry feed and water 24/7 in their coops. I also offer Poultry Grit and Oyster Shells, each in separate containers. They need Grit to digest whole grains, seeds and veggies. 20181214_095809.jpg
I don't offer my hens or pullets veggies, but I do let them free range an hour before sunset daily, weather permitting. There's plenty of vegetation and bugs, grubs, worms and Salamanders on my property most of the year. In the winter season I buy a bale of Alfalfa hay and toss a flake in their pen a couple of times a week. 20190628_201953.jpg . 20190628_201945.jpg . GC
