Today I noticed one of my chicks doesn’t have a nail. I’ve had her for almost 3 weeks and she’s roughly 4 weeks old. A gold Wyandotte. I spend a lot of time with them and she’s one of my favorites so I feel like I would have noticed a missing nail before if it was missing. They are inside our bathroom and never been outside, there’s no bullies among the flock of 10 chicks. I’m wondering how can this happen? And what can I do? Will it harm her not having a nail?

I'm not sure why she would loose a nail like that, unless she was getting bullied or something by the other chickens. However, I do know that she will be fine without a nail. A couple years back, one of my favorite chickens got attacked by a mongoose and lost half of 2 of her toes, so she can walk fine, but doesn't have nails on those toes. She doesn't seem hindered by it at all and will still use that foot to walk, scratch the ground, e.t.c. You'd also think she'd get bullied a lot, but since her wounds are all healed, she's more the boss than anything. Anyway, good luck. I know this doesn't help much with the reason why she's missing a toe nail, but I do hope that this brings a bit of comfort.
