Female Duck with Lump on Head and Swollen Eye

Hi Borador Beans, Miss Lydia directed me to your post. I have a rescue muscovy duck who is nearly a year old. She ate a metal staple, no idea where she dug that up (she is contained in her own area). Avian vet saw her, put her on meds in hospital with syringe feeding and I brought her home on Tuesday to see if she would eat on her own. She is not eating and not improving. I asked about surgery and the avian vet said it is a very complicated procedure and most ducks do not make it, he did not recommend it. I can't give up on her. I was wondering if your duck's surgery was considered difficult and how she fared? Any information you can share would be greatly appreciated. thank you, sad and sleepless in Florida

UPDATED TO INCLUDE PHOTOS.
PS. Dr. April even had someone call us DURING surgery and shared videos and photos of the procedure.

Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear about your baby. Keisha's story was a Rollercoaster and she wasn't expected to survive, but against all odds, she did, and we owe it to the doctor who performed her surgery.

Here's the doctor we used. She's highly recommended! She works in the evenings, so you may not be able to reach her until then. She's also very straightforward and blunt, but she knows what she's doing.

Dr. April Romagnano
1508 SW Mapp Rd, Palm City, FL 34990
After Hours Bird/Exotic Care - (561) 723-0025

More info about our experience:

Keisha was egg bound and had peritonitis - a giant "cooked" egg inside her plus 60+ egg particles attached to her insides like glue. We saw 3 "specialists" who said she wouldn't survive surgery. When we were about to give up, we stumbled upon Dr. April in Palm City, FL. She was confident she could help Keisha, and she did. Keisha tried to pass 2 or 3 times during surgery, but Dr. April resuscitated her.

Now, Keisha is alive and well and the queen of our house, nearly a year later.

I say this to never give up hope. If you can make it to Dr. April, we highly recommend her. Give her a call and see what she thinks. We drove 3hrs each way for treatment, multiple times, and paid a mini fortune, but the Dr discounted it for us and saved her life.

I hope this helps.

Amanda
