We were recently given a very sweet rooster after the death of "Ivan", our first rooster. This rooster is very calm and gentle with the hens, and loves to be picked up. However...our 1 female turkey does not think hes awesome...
Two days after introducing "Barbosa" (the new rooster) to the flock, we stepped outside to see our turkey and him fighting - pretty violently. She would chase him all over the yard, and he would actually turn around to fight back against her at times. We stepped in to chase them apart and since then we have not seen them fight. However, our Turkey who is usually front and center of everything, is now avoiding the rooster and the rest of the flock.
She seems to be more "depressed" than usual, and when giving the chickens treats, we have to walk over to her to actually give her treats as well since she refuses to come close to the rooster. Is this just from the stress of introducing the new rooster? Has a new Pecking Order been created for her?
