We purchased Barred Rock chicks that were sold to us as a pure female run. I am not sure about this one though. All of our Barreds are about five months old and are starting to lay. This one seems to have a super large comb for being a female. I haven't heard him/her crow and don't see spurs. Is this just a hen with a super big comb?

A full body pic would help confirm, but I think I see hackle feathers. The comb is really too large for a pullet too. Vent sexing is not 100% accurate, mistakes do happen!

Sounds like many of you are voting for roo. I passed on your full body picture request, but, of course, when I tried to get a full body picture, the roo/hen started sitting, walking away, etc etc. What a time to get camera shy! So, here is the best I could get below ...

So, what is the verdict?
