After the disaster of trying to hatch useless shipped chicken eggs in my first attempt at hatching, we grabbed some freshly laid duck eggs (2 Mallard and 1 Rouen) and put them in the incubator. I was thinking our Rouen drake was shooting blanks, because we eat the eggs and none seemed to be fertile when I cracked them open. Well today, day 5, I just had to candle them and YAY! All of them had great vascular development, but the air sacs looked a little small to me. Then again, not having done this before, I'm not sure how big they should be.....

Anyway, we are THRILLED!

Hopefully we'll have success this time......at least the darn things are fertile......You go Victor (our drake) Possibley 2 Mallard/Rouen mix and 1 Rouen!

I didn't take any pics, but here's a link that someone started to show the development. Ours look exactly like the day 5 pics.
