I recently put a new hen in with my rooster I think she was mixed with other breeds before how long do I wait to make sure the eggs are fertile from my roo

It's the unaswerable question. I have had a hen with a rooster, then long after the rooster died, her eggs were still fertile, not all of them of course but some.Hens can store sperm, in time, the sperm die, but she always has some still left. The for sure way to get rid of it is when the hen becomes broody and all the heat will kill it all off. But if thats not an option, I would wait 2-3 weeks, and she should be clean. Nobody knowes exactly how long they can store it for, some people say forever, and in many cases it's true. It all depends on the hen. Good luck...hope this sorta helped,

I waited three weeks this spring and put my white rock roo in with the white rock girls. I waited three days then gathered eggs for the bator. got 90% hatch but 2 were black just like their australorp daddy. Now I wait 4 weeks
