Hi everyone. I'm 99% sure this isn't fertile. Please help me put my mind to rest. I have a super broody silkie. She won't leave this 1 egg alone. My heart breaks for her. Shes been sitting for over a week now.

It's a dud.
Do you have a rooster?
I would toss the egg and break the broody.
She should be permitted to set just one egg anyway. The last thing you want to do is intentionally hatch a lone chick.

Thank you. I do have a rooster but suspect he hasn't covered her. I have a lady in town with silkies, after much much hunting she can possibly help me. If I go eggs,I'll give her a good batch to hatch.
She's my only silkie. She needs more of her kind,ye know? She lost her mom and siblings. So I really want to help her.
I'll keep u posted. Thanks so much for your input.

her a good batch to hatch
Give her 1 or 2 LESS eggs than she can cover. You will also need to consider how many birds you can have in your flock and have a plan for what you will do with the cockerels that hatch.
Good luck.

For sure. She's a first time layer.
I have other chickens,Pekin bantams, and kapokkies (they call it here) but they young still and she's not bonding. Iv heard of a lady I can see this afternoon so let's hold thumbs. Thanks so much.
