Fertilized egg question

My rooster passed away three weeks ago. After he passed, all eggs were cleared from the coop. The two chickens didn't produce any eggs for about a week. A week later I noticed them sitting on eggs. Could these eggs be fertilized since they were laid two weeks after the rooster passed? Or are the chickens confused with the passing of their friend?

They MIGHT be fertilized still. I would let them set, and hope for the best. Sorry to hear you lost your roo.

You could try candling them to see.
