So, I am just starting out with raising chickens. I have a dozen hens and one rooster. My hens should start laying in a couple weeks. I'm not ready to hatch my own chicks yet. I plan on using the eggs. Do I need to be concerned with bringing fertilized eggs into the house for eating? Or do they not actually begin to develop until the hen has sat on them for a couple days? Just want to make sure I don't need to candle the eggs before eating them.

The eggs will not develop until incubated. Collect daily, and there will be no problems. Occasional blood or meat spots in eggs are caused by irregularities in the 'production' process not by fertility.
