I currently have six 8/9 week chicks, one of them is 100% a roo and has recently started pecking at 2 of the other chicks. The two chicks do hold stand up to the roo but now I'm unsure if they are also roos or just hens that hold their ground. Any ideas if hens and roos fight? As the two chicks don't have and noticeable combs and tend to be fairly placid

Could be cockerels, or pecking order. Youngsters also do a lot of posturing and "play fighting". How much space do they have? At that age, they should be in a coop/run with standard spacing. 4/10 s.f./bird. Give them lots of multi height areas, several feed/water stations, plenty of out of sight areas.

You have pullets and cockerels...and yes, they will spar at that age regardless of gender.
..and it'snot unheard of that a cockerel that age will attempt to mount or dominate any other hatch mate.

FYI.....semantics, maybe, but can be important communication terms when discussing chicken behavior.
Female chickens are called pullets until one year of age, then they are called hens.
Male chickens are called cockerels until one year of age, then they are called cocks(or cockbirds or roosters).
Age in weeks or months is always a good thing to note.
