I have had two ZERO hatches in my Hova Bator. It has always been good. I always calibrate my Hygrometers. I check my thermometers and change the batteries after every hatch.

The first batch was my eggs. Second batch I went and picked up from a friend.

I finally went and bought a Flukers Thermometer/Hygrometer at the Pet Store. I stuck it in the bator, it read 7%.
I went ahead and calibrated it, after 8 hours it was dead on 75%. So I stuck it back in the bator again it read 7%

So that is part of my problem/ when I eggtopsied though I found some strange results.

First EE Eggs, it is shrink wrapped

Really no liquid and yolk still so stopped a day early maybe

SBL Egg

Lots of liquid

Very thick, almost like if it would have hatched, it would have been a Sticky Chick

This one was also Shrink wrapped, no liquid

This was my Double Yolker

Again lots of liquid

So this is what I find odd, that 2 had virtually no liquid and shrink wrapped, 2 had lots of thick liquid like sticky

I am still a bit confused, but going to set some more tomorrow and see what happens.

Comments and theories welcomed please!

do you have a still air incubator or a circulated air? That might make a difference if it is a still air. Depending on where your water/moisture source is located if that humidity isnt being circulated evenly throughout the incubator.

Just a thought.

I am just about to hatch out my 2nd batch ever, so I am not the best person to offer advice. But maybe it will help.

Good luck.

It is still air but I have used this for 3 years and always had great hatches, even with shipped eggs. It ran almost constantly for 2 years in a row.

I had the same problem with my last hatch. A lot didn't hatch but developed and died within a couple of days of hatching. I didn't open them. Some pipped but needed assistance because they were shrink wrapped (a normal problem here because humidity is super low no matter how much water I use) But some were still full of a thick goo when they hatched, and then the thick goo would basically instantly harden on the chicks once they hatched, and it was like super glue, you couldn't get it off and the chicks were paralyzed by it and then died. That was a new one for me.

Join the club. I have been having the same problem. I followed the instructions with my HovaBator and got new thermometers and new hygrometers and I STILL have this problem. I do have a still air Hova, so I went out and bought a Little Giant with a fan in it for this next batch. I have a batch in the HB and may add a fan before it is done at the rate I am going. I am sick of paying money for good eggs and not getting squat. I have a Brower Top Hat, and that has a fan in it, and I still get the same results. Yes, it is dry as can be here right now, but geez. It is enough to make a person just give up on hatching. The odd thing though, until this last hatch and a half, my own eggs were coming out almost 100%.
I want to just buy me a Sportsman and be done with these small ones. That or build one, which I think will happen first.

We are going to build a small cabinet bator, we are arguing about how to do it at the moment, hubby wants to build it low and wider. I want to turners (gonna adapt for the regular styro type turners) and a hatcher. So I wanted to build 2 shelves for the turners, a small shelf up top for humidity and a hatching area below. Hubby wants to put the turners side by side on one shelf and separate a place there for humidity, then place below for hatching. I will win, eventually.....LOL

I set another 42 of my eggs, will see how it goes. I just don't get the totally dry, then lots of liquid in different eggs.

Can I join the club ?

I am on my 3rd hatch same results as you all. I do have 3 incubators. One was homemade, and the only one I got pips from. Being a rookie, I let the piped ones stay in and they shrink wrapped. That was with a computer fan in it. The other are a still air LG and a off brand very old both styrofoams. So I have about 30 in lockdown. And my gutt says I am going to have the same problems. I am a little nervous. I have had power outages with this hatch. But I have kept my humidity at 40%. temp and hygrometer are both caliubrated. I think that if nothing hatches I am giving up. I feel like I just cant hatch.

Well, I will be interested to see what happens with everyone elses hatch.

It is sad, but I am glad I am not the only one having these problems. I have felt like a failure this whole time. I couldn't understand why I would get so many from my eggs and then almost zip from shipped and blamed it on the handling and age. Now, I am having issues with my own eggs too, so I know it is more than that and probably on my end.
I WILL get it figured out, I have too much invested in all this to back out.

I just set another 42 from my eggs. Humidity is at 50 right now, but going to adjust if necessary in the morning, once it stabilizes again.
