So, our chicks are almost 6 weeks old now. Hoping they're girls, but I don't know if that can be determined yet. Also trying to figure out their breed(s)/mix. One of them is also getting a funny little mohawk. The breeder we got them from has 4 breeds of hen and 2 breeds of rooster. The hens are speckled sussex, lavender orpington, silver laced wyandotte, and easter egger. The potential roosters were lavender orpington and silver laced wyandotte. One of the chicks (first photo) came from a blue egg, so that one is definitely half easter egger.

At six weeks, well experienced people can sometimes guess the gender, based on size, body shape, character, and comb size.
Was the second from a blue egg? It looks like wyandotte/Easter egger to me, based on the choices.
I'm going to guess pretty definitely that the first one is a girl. The second... I'm not so sure.
Either way, they're both really cute.

I'm fairly certain the second one came from a brown egg. (Could possibly be pure wyandotte?) But there was some nest box confusion.

We originally had 6 eggs; 4 brown ones and 2 blue ones. We checked on them multiple times during the brooding, even the night before. On the day after they hatched, though, after their mom got out of the box and I was able to check, I found two cracked open eggs. One brown and one blue, and 3 more unhatched brown eggs.

The other brown eggs never hatched. As for the second blue egg, we couldn't find it. Unless it somehow got crunched together with the hatched blue egg, but it didn't seem like it. We remain confused by that.

I posted their just hatched photos here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...make-sure-our-coop-is-ready-for-them.1199047/

Really just GUESSING, going by body shape, stance, coloring & what I can make out of the comb/wattle. Can't see the feathering very well on the 2nd
1st Orpington + Wyandotte = pullet 2nd EE + Orpington = cockerel

It could be pure wyandotte - I was thrown off by the crest. Which I'm guessing will smooth out in time.

Pretty sure the first one is half EE, she had chubby cheeks when she hatched, and they've started to reappear a little (can't really tell in that photo, though).

I read in another thread about wyandotte pullets getting their tail feathers earlier? If it helps, they both starting getting theirs at less than 2 weeks.

I was also looking at leg color, I think the orpingtons and EEs have the grey legs, right? And wyandottes have the yellow?
