I don't know why I felt so stressed and intimidated about actually deciding on what I wanted and ordering them, but I did feel that way. After talking and talking about it, pondering, thinking, and re thinking, I finally ordered 26 babies on Friday from MMcH. They won't arrive until the week of May 17th, just to insure they won't freeze, cause we are pretty far north. I am expecting some Light Brahmas, Black Australorps, and EEers! Very excited! Now, I can work on gathering supplies and getting the brooders built and ready for their arrival!
DH and I used to raise pheasants and quail, so I am kind of used to how to brood babies, so I hope it all comes back to me and I don't do anything wrong when they arrive!!
Wish me luck!!

Good Luck! I ordered from a hatchery for the first time this year too. I have buff brahmas, australorps, and ee's coming at the end of this month. you'll have to post pics when your babies come!

Just how far north of Syracuse, is Ellensburg Depot? do you have a depot? I need a vacation. What goes on there? Anything exciting?
Oh yeah and all the best w/ your chicks.

I am about 4 hours north of Syracuse. Literally spitting distance from the Canadian border. There was a depot, a train depot. Back in the day, anyway. The building is still standing, but used for another purpose now. Most of the small towns have old train station buildings up here. Not much goes on here at all. Tastee Freeze during the summer, hibernation in the winter! We are a very small town, farming community, rural living at it's best. I live in my Grandmother's house, which is 100 years old this year. Grew up as the 5th generation in my family's farm house about two miles away from where I live now. Can't beat country living! I would come and visit, just don't blink or you might miss it! We are right on the edge of the Adirondacks, so Lake Placid, Tupper Lake, Saranac Lake, and Lake Champlain are all very close.
Thanks for all the encouragement! Now the waiting begins!!
