Hello! I'm Virginia and I am FINALLY getting around to posting my introduction. I'm going to make it easy on myself and just answer to questions below.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Our chickens just turned 1 at the end of April. This is our first flock and it's mostly been fun!
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Right now we have 13 hens and a rooster from our original flock. We recently acquired another rooster (we may be getting rid of our current rooster because he has it out for me and makes it nearly impossible for me to care for the hens. And we have 7 chicks (should be all girls?). Plus somewhere between 10-12 going in the incubator on Tuesday because my 10 year olds class is doing it as a class project.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Let's see... we have 2 austalorps (the mean roo is an australorp), a light brahma, an isa brown, 5 americana hens and 1 americana rooster, 5 barred rocks, 3 buff orpington chicks, and 4 New Hampshire red chicks
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I LOVE watching the hens. They're HILARIOUS!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I like to knit and cook and read, none of which I have a ton of time for.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I have 5 kids (ages:10, 9, 6, 4, 3) and a husband. I sell kids books for a job and we don't have any other pets.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I found it when googling looking for answers about stuff!
I'm attaching some pictures of our chickens. The baby chick pictures I took because I sell kids books and the little freeloaders needed to earn their keep!
