So mixed flock of 15 chickens and 3 ducks all girls waiting on that first egg is exciting. 4 chickens are 24wks on Tuesday, 9 are 21wks Tuesday and 2 are 15wks soon. The ducks are a respectable almost 19wks. As I was waiting on 2 of my older girls to lay. A sapphire gem (Baby was my first to redden up) and a Sapphire olive egger (Lady the diva) being the closest it was a wait. They started squatting and a week ago (Baby first than Lady). My lead pullet Baby laid her first egg this morning and it was exciting. Working with older birds already laying you take it for granted but waiting for the first egg is very exciting, I see why so many get excited.

It's not perfect there is calcium flecks but It's got a good shell and I'm proud of her waiting until she was ready to lay! I can't wait to see the laying to mature and start laying. I have a few in my second age group that are pretty red (A wyandotte and an australorp). Though I'm happy that my favorite girl was the first to lay that makes it all the sweeter. All my girls are good girls (even though there was a time I worried that they may be naughty their whole lives) and they all have good points it felt good Baby was first. Hard not to favor the one that's consistently talked and cuddled readily even up to just before (I cuddled her just before she went to lay) and after (I was so proud I held her and gave her some snuggle time which always makes her close her eyes in ecstasy). Cost wise getting already laying is cheaper in the long run but this was worth it.

Just excited and wanted to share as I'm sure many more are. Anyone else get a first egg today?
