Congratulations on your first egg. It's an awesome experience!!!! Be sure to keep a couple of fake eggs in the nesting box(es) so they all know where to go to lay their eggs. They really get the hang of it quickly. I had a couple of surprise eggs that were laid in the compound and was afraid I had a chicken with a bad habit. But once they all started laying.....the eggs have all been in the nesting boxes. And now, they all (4) lay eggs in the same box. The other day I caught 2 hens in one box at the same time.
and it was a bit crowded for them. Didn't seem to bother either one though.

We got them (Black Australorp and Brahmas) in mid-May. They were probably a 2-3 weeks old. I am guessing 24 weeks. The Brahma won't lay for a little while yet, and my other australorp isn't quite red enough yet.
