So, we got this letter in the mail today presumably from our town animal control stating what could and not be allowed as a pet. With a handwritten note saying we had 2 weeks to comply. Now upon further evaluation of said letter, I quickly realized this was not in fact from the town but a neighbor, I assume. It was simply copied and pasted from the website, not on letterhead, not even mailed from our town or in a town envelope. And attached was a ripped out article from a magazine. Now, my kids are upset, I'm slightly peeved and ready to take action. I have read the city ordinances and NO WHERE does say anything about poultry. And we don't consider the chickens pets, per say. We plan to eat the eggs, sell them if possible (along with the vegetables we are beginning in the garden). What I want to know, is there a loophole or is there verb-age that I can use to keep my chickens? I don't want to break laws but I don't want to go quietly into the night either. I know that the chickens used to be allowed at one point. And I do have friends that work in the town offices...just FYI. Ok, thank you for any constructive advice....now...go!
