Hello everyone, has anyone on here ever had to look for there birth parents? My husband would like to find his birth mother and all we know is her last name and where my husband was born. The people that raised him his so called Mom and Das will be of no help, my husband is 38 years old and we have talked about this for years. It could be a long hard road, and we may never find her or he could get his heart broken. So if anyone has been down this road or has anything to add please let us know. I would love to find her for his sake and I pray it would be a happy ending.

Thanks
Erica

I know that there are some groups out there that help people find their birth parents. Try goodsearching or googling and see if you can come up with them.

We have adopted five children through foster care and got all the information we could on their birth families so if they ever choose to find their parents we can help them as much as possible.

I cant be of much help other than suggest those websites that do people searches. But I did want to share my friends story. She was taken in to foster care as a baby, she was so abused they took her home "to be comfortable" till she died. Her now parents adopted her and she is now 40. Her birth mother would leave her at a church for hours on end and it was the ladies there that reported they noticed the abuse after several months of taking care of her often. In high school she became best friends with a class mate. Just a few years ago she found out that her friends aunt was one of the ladies at the church and she was able to meet the pastors wife who sat with her in the hospital every day before she was fostered. She did get some info from about her parents but still feels no desire to find them. It just worked out in such a way that all these people were connected.

Finding birth parents can be relatively easy (for example, if he knows names, or has it on the birth certificate, etc) OR really difficult - born in a state with very strict adoption privacy laws and no info on birth cert to help.

Do a google search and put in 'adoption registry' along with the state - IE 'adoption registry NC'

Many states have mutual consent adoption registries where if the birth parent(s) are looking, then they register, and the child registers and if there is a match, the information is shared between all parties.

Good luck

(from another 38 yr old adoptee who thinks once in a while about whether or not she wants to try to find birth parents...)

I don't have any experience at finding birth parents. I just wanted to say good luck and I hope if he finds her that things go well.

I also wanted to ask, more for him to think about, is he prepared for a horror story on how he may have been abused or is the product of rape or something similar? I'm praying it's not true but, if one is going to search for their birthparents they need to be prepared for the worse. It also makes getting the news of, I was young and just couldn't take care of you so I gave you to someone who could so much better.
