Okay, so I rescued two mutt geese and I assume they are male and female, by the way they act. One is very bold and open while the other is meek and quiet always hiding behind the more bold.

They free range around our 2 acre pond, with horse pasture on one side, a tree line on the other, and then marshy grass around the rest. They sleep and rest and graze in the horse pasture. I have a metal burn barrel tipped on it's side with pine straw in there to maybe try to get them to nest in there.

If and when they do start laying, where in the world would I look for eggs? How close to the pond will they lay? What does a goose nest look like? Will they nest in the overturned barrel?

Thanks, it's my first pair of geese, and I keep looking forward to eggs and maybe goslings.

I helped a man out last summer feeding his animals. He had HUNDREDS of geese in a pasture that sounds much like yours. THe eggs I DID find where usually WELL hidden in the grass just a few yards away from the pond bank. Some of them laid in the cow trough in the old barn. It's harder to find a goose nest than it is a duck nest. I also got too close to one nest and didn't know it until I had a goose flogging me. That's one surefire way to find it!!!
